Vagamon Suicide Point Covered in Mist - A Chilled Hill Station Experience

VAGAMON – SUICIDE POINT COVERED WITH MIST WILL ATTRACT EVERY MIND

Vagamon is one of those hill stations where nature doesn't need to show off. The mist, mountains, pine forests and endless valleys are more than enough.

Located in the Western Ghats of Kerala, Vagamon is known for its beautiful viewpoints, green meadows, pine forests and, most famously, paragliding. The destination spreads across the Kottayam–Idukki region and has become one of Kerala's popular hill-station escapes.

But my visit to Vagamon was not actually planned as a holiday.

My Visit to Vagamon

It was part of a continuing trip while I was travelling through the Western Ghats for official work. The previous night, we stayed at a resort in Vagamon after travelling from Kochi. After dinner, we were more than happy to get some uninterrupted sleep.

The next morning, our first stop was Pine Valley Forest.

Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take photographs!

Trust me, that was one of those moments when the camera stays inside the bag while your eyes do all the work. The tall pine trees, deep slopes and peaceful surroundings create a completely different atmosphere. The location has also appeared in several Indian movies and is well known as a film-shooting destination.

What I particularly liked was the relative lack of crowds. It felt peaceful and untouched compared with some of the more commercial tourist spots.

A Very Average Cup of Tea!

On our way back to the resort, we stopped at a small roadside stall for tea.

And honestly?

The tea was really boring.

I still remember that shop—not because the tea was good, but because it was probably one of the most forgettable cups of tea I've ever had. 😂

After reaching the resort, we quickly refreshed ourselves, had a proper breakfast and prepared to continue our journey towards Thekkady.

But Vagamon wasn't finished with us yet.

Vagamon Meadows & Suicide Point

On the way, we stopped at Vagamon Meadows and then headed towards the famous Suicide Point, a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the deep valley.

The name sounds intense, but the real attraction is the breathtaking landscape and the adventure activities around the area.

Vagamon is also famous for paragliding, although the activity depends heavily on weather and wind conditions. Standing near the edge of the viewpoint and looking into the massive valley already gives you a strange combination of excitement and nervousness.

Then something happened that made the place even more beautiful.

Within a few minutes, the entire valley started disappearing under a thick blanket of mist.

The deep valley, mountains and distant landscape slowly vanished.

All we could feel was the chilled air and see the white mist moving around us.

For a few moments, I simply stood there.

No rush.

No noise.

Just the mist, wind and mountains.

That was probably my favourite moment in Vagamon.

The Journey Continues

After spending some time at Suicide Point, we continued our journey towards Thekkady.

That short visit gave me a completely different impression of Vagamon. It wasn't just another viewpoint on a travel itinerary. The combination of pine forests, green meadows, mist-covered valleys and cool mountain air made it memorable.

Sometimes, the best travel memories aren't the places where we spend an entire week.

Sometimes, they are the places we pass through for only a few hours.

Vagamon was one of those places for me.

Vagamon is approximately 65 km from Kottayam and can be reached by road from several major destinations in Kerala.

Nearest railway station: Kottayam Railway Station

Vagamon also makes a good stop if you're planning a wider Kerala trip covering destinations such as Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey and Kochi.

If you're travelling through Kerala and looking for mountains, mist, pine forests, adventure and a little peace away from the usual tourist rush, put Vagamon on your list.

You never know—the next time you reach Suicide Point, the entire valley might disappear into the mist just like it did during my visit.
