Top Beaches to Spend Time with Your Beloved in the Hidden Villages of Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is known for its sunrise, Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, temples, and the famous meeting point of the seas. But there is another side of Kanyakumari that many visitors don't get to see.

The quiet beaches hidden inside its villages.

Kanyakumari is my native place, yet I have to admit that I had only explored a few of these beautiful spots before. Recently, I decided to change that. Instead of travelling with a fixed destination or a checklist, I wanted to explore my own birthplace slowly and discover the places that I had somehow missed.

Some of these beaches are peaceful. Some are surrounded by fishing villages. Some have historical stories attached to them. And some are simply perfect places to sit with your loved one, spend time with family, or enjoy a relaxed evening with friends.

So, if you are looking for lesser-known beaches in Kanyakumari, here are a few places worth exploring.

1. Kanyakumari Beach – Where the Seas Meet

Of course, the list has to begin with the world-famous Kanyakumari Beach.

This is the place that put Kanyakumari on the map for travellers from across India and beyond. The most fascinating aspect is the traditional description of Kanyakumari as the place where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet.

Standing there and watching the vast ocean is a different experience altogether.

Just offshore, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue add to the unique character of the place. And if you are lucky enough to arrive early, watching the sun rise over the ocean is something you will remember for a long time.

For me, Kanyakumari Beach is not simply a tourist attraction. It is one of those places that always feels connected to home.

Best time: Early morning for sunrise or evening sunset and for a relaxed walk.

2. Vattakottai Beach – History Meets the Sea

Next comes Vattakottai Beach, one of my favourite combinations of history and nature in Kanyakumari.

The highlight here is Vattakottai Fort, an old coastal fort standing close to the sea. The combination of the historic stone walls, greenery and the blue ocean gives this place a completely different atmosphere.

Even the journey towards Vattakottai can be enjoyable. If you travel from Kanyakumari through the coastal route towards Kovalam and Vattakottai, you get beautiful glimpses of the countryside and coastline along the way.

It is not just about reaching the destination. The route itself becomes part of the experience.

3. Chothavilai Beach – A Relaxing Village Escape

Chothavilai Beach is one of the well-known beaches in Kanyakumari district, but it still retains the relaxed atmosphere of a coastal village.

The beach has been developed and maintained as a tourism destination, making it a comfortable place to spend some time with family and friends.

Whenever I think about Chothavilai, I picture a simple beach day — families enjoying themselves, couples sitting together, children playing, and people simply taking a break from their usual routine.

Sometimes, you don't need an extraordinary destination.

You just need a peaceful beach and good company.

4. Kodimunai Beach – A Fisherman's Village with Stories

Then comes Kodimunai Beach, one of the lesser-known coastal spots that deserves more attention.

This is not just about the beach. The surrounding fishing village and its people add another layer to the experience.

For photographers and travellers who enjoy documenting real local life, this kind of place can be fascinating. Fishing boats, nets, coastal houses, fishermen at work and everyday village life can provide countless stories through a camera.

Located along the coastal stretch towards the Colachel side, Kodimunai gives you a chance to experience a more authentic side of Kanyakumari.

Sometimes the best travel stories are not found at famous tourist attractions. They are found in ordinary villages.

5. Paraikal Beach / Kurumbanai Beach – A Different Kind of Beach Day

Paraikal Beach, also known as Kurumbanai Beach, is another interesting place to explore if you want to experience the coastline away from the usual tourist crowd.

There are different routes to reach this area, but I would suggest taking the opportunity to explore the interior village roads when conditions are suitable.

That journey itself can be surprisingly enjoyable.

The landscape changes, the roads become quieter, and you get to see another side of rural Kanyakumari before finally reaching the coast.

It is a good option for spending time with friends and family, taking photographs, enjoying the sea breeze, or simply sitting down and forgetting about everything else for a while.

Explore Kanyakumari Beyond the Famous Places

Kanyakumari is much more than the places printed on tourist brochures.

There are small villages, coastal roads, fishing communities, temples, old structures and quiet beaches waiting to be discovered. Since this is my birthplace, I feel there is something special about exploring these places one by one.

I am not travelling with a mission to prove that these are completely unknown destinations.

I simply want to discover the Kanyakumari that I haven't seen yet — and share those discoveries with you.

If you are travelling with your beloved, family or friends, don't always rush towards the famous attractions.

Take a small road.

Enter a village.

Follow the coastline.

Stop when the view feels right.

Sometimes, the most memorable part of a journey begins when you stop following the usual tourist route.

And that is the Kanyakumari I want You too to explore!!!
