Astrology has been part of our culture for generations. People visit astrologers for many reasons—marriage, career, family, finances, and sometimes simply because they are curious about what the future holds.

But there are a few questions that always make me wonder: Do we really need to ask an astrologer this?

Here are three questions I believe are better left unasked.

1. “Which Direction Will the Groom Come From?”

This is probably one of the classic questions associated with traditional astrology.

In the old days, when computers, smartphones, and the internet were nowhere in the picture, families would sometimes ask astrologers which direction a future groom might come from.

And then came the interesting part.

They would apparently look in that direction, search around, meet people, and eventually find a suitable match. It was a tradition deeply connected with the way Tamil society approached marriage in earlier generations.

But times have changed dramatically.

Today, we live in a world where people move between cities and countries for education, employment, business, and countless other reasons. The internet has practically put the whole world into the palm of our hands.

So, in today's world, asking an astrologer:

“Which direction will the groom come from?”

can feel a little outdated.

The groom could come from the next street—or the other side of the planet!

2. “How Many Children Will I Have?”

This is another question people sometimes ask astrologers.

But think about how much the world has changed.

Science and medicine have advanced enormously. Family planning is a personal decision, and many couples make choices based on their finances, health, lifestyle, personal preferences, and circumstances.

Imagine someone already has two children and asks an astrologer how many children they will have.

The astrologer studies the horoscope and says:

“You may have three children.”

Now what?

Does that mean a third child is guaranteed?

Not necessarily.

Life doesn't always follow a prediction. Circumstances change, people make decisions, and sometimes things simply don't happen the way we expect.

A horoscope may offer an interpretation, but it cannot replace personal choice and real-life circumstances.

3. “What Was I Like in My Past Life?”

This one is particularly interesting.

Some people ask astrologers:

“Who was I in my past life?”

Now, let's be honest—what exactly are we going to do with the answer?

Suppose an astrologer looks at your horoscope and confidently tells you:

“You were destined to become the president of a country!”

Would you believe it?

And if you did believe it, would you start looking for your imaginary presidential palace?

That's where things become amusing.

The past is already gone. Whether you believe in past lives or not, we still have to live the life that is in front of us.

Instead of spending too much time trying to discover who we supposedly were, perhaps it is more useful to ask:

“Who can I become?”

That question can actually change something.

Astrology, Belief and Common Sense

Astrology has a long history and an important place in many cultures, including Tamil and Indian traditions. People approach it in different ways, and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.

But perhaps we should also use a little common sense.

Not every question needs an answer from an astrologer.

Sometimes the future depends not only on what the stars supposedly say, but also on our choices, actions, circumstances, and decisions.

So, the next time you visit an astrologer, think twice before asking:

1. Which direction will my future spouse come from?
2. How many children will I have?
3. Who was I in my past life?

Instead, perhaps ask a question that can actually help you move forward:

“What can I do today to make my future better?”

Now, that's a question worth asking.
