Sony WH-CH520 Review: My Experience with Beige and Blue Wireless Headphones

Sometimes, buying a good pair of headphones doesn't have to cost a fortune. We don't always need expensive headphones with all the premium features. Sometimes, we just want something comfortable, reliable, good-looking and capable of delivering decent sound for everyday use.

That's exactly what made us choose the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones.

Interestingly, we didn't buy just one. We bought two Sony WH-CH520 headphones – one in Beige for my wife and one in Blue for me.

After using both, I thought it would be worth sharing our experience.

Why Did We Choose Sony WH-CH520?

There are plenty of wireless headphones available in the market, especially in this price range. But Sony is a brand that has built a strong reputation in audio products over the years.

When we were looking for headphones, our expectations were quite simple:

  • Good sound quality for everyday listening.

  • Comfortable enough for regular use.

  • Long battery life.

  • Easy Bluetooth connectivity.

  • A lightweight design.

  • A decent microphone for calls.

  • A stylish appearance without spending too much.

The Sony WH-CH520 seemed to offer most of these features in one package.

First Impressions – Beige and Blue Look Beautiful

One thing we particularly liked was the colour selection.

We went with two different colours rather than buying identical headphones.

The Beige colour: My wife chose Beige. It has a simple, elegant and clean appearance. It looks subtle and stylish without being too flashy.

The Blue colour: I chose Blue. It has a slightly more youthful and casual look. Personally, I like how the colour stands out while still maintaining a simple design.

Both colours look good, and having different colours also makes it easy to identify whose headphones are whose!

The overall design is minimalistic. Sony has kept things simple, without unnecessary design elements.

Design and Comfort

The Sony WH-CH520 is an on-ear headphone, meaning the ear cushions rest on your ears rather than completely covering them.

One of the things I appreciate is its lightweight construction. It doesn't feel bulky, making it convenient to carry around.

The adjustable headband helps you find a suitable fit, and the soft ear cushions make everyday listening reasonably comfortable.

However, there is something worth mentioning.

Since these are on-ear headphones, they may not feel equally comfortable for everyone during very long listening sessions. If you prefer headphones that completely cover your ears, you might want to consider an over-ear model.

For regular music listening, watching videos and attending calls, the design works well for us.

Sound Quality – What Can You Expect?

Let's talk about the most important part: sound.

Sony has included its DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology, which is designed to improve the quality of compressed digital music.

The headphones deliver an enjoyable listening experience for everyday entertainment.

Whether you're listening to your favourite songs, watching YouTube videos, enjoying podcasts or catching up on movies, they are suitable for general daily use.

The sound can also be customised through the Sony | Sound Connect app using its equaliser settings.

I particularly like having the option to adjust the sound according to personal preference rather than being restricted to one default sound profile.

Of course, these are budget-friendly headphones, so don't expect premium audiophile-level sound or the noise isolation of expensive headphones.

For everyday listening, they do a good job.

Battery Life – One of Its Biggest Advantages

Sony advertises up to 50 hours of battery life on the WH-CH520.

That's one of the strongest reasons to consider this headphone.

Nobody likes charging their headphones every day. Having a long-lasting battery makes daily use much more convenient.

Whether you're listening during your free time, working on your laptop or travelling, the battery capacity gives you plenty of flexibility.

It also supports quick charging, which is useful when you realise that you forgot to charge your headphones before heading out.

Actual battery performance depends on volume, usage and settings, but the advertised battery life is certainly impressive for this category.

Bluetooth Connectivity and Multipoint Connection

Another useful feature is Bluetooth connectivity with multipoint support.

The multipoint feature allows the headphones to connect to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

For example, you can connect your headphones to your laptop and smartphone.

This is particularly useful when switching between work and personal entertainment.

You don't have to manually disconnect and reconnect every time you want to use another device.

It's a small feature that can make everyday usage easier.

Microphone and Calling Experience

The Sony WH-CH520 comes with a built-in microphone.

This makes it useful for regular phone calls, online meetings and voice communication.

For someone who uses headphones for both entertainment and occasional work, having a built-in microphone is convenient.

However, remember that these headphones don't have active noise cancellation. Microphone performance can also vary depending on the surrounding environment.

If you frequently attend professional meetings in noisy surroundings, a dedicated headset might be a better choice.

What About the Sony Sound Connect App?

Sony also provides its Sound Connect application, which gives you additional control over your headphones.

You can customise the equaliser and adjust supported audio settings.

I like the idea of being able to personalise the listening experience instead of simply accepting the default settings.

It's another useful addition that makes the headphones more flexible.

What We Liked

After choosing two different colours, here are some of the features that attracted us to this headphone:

  1. 50-hour advertised battery life: Excellent battery capacity for everyday use.

  2. Lightweight design: Easy to carry and convenient for regular listening.

  3. Colour options: Beige and Blue both have their own appeal.

  4. DSEE technology: Helps enhance compressed digital audio.

  5. Multipoint connectivity: Useful when switching between two devices.

  6. Customisable EQ: Allows you to adjust the sound to your preference.

  7. Built-in microphone: Convenient for everyday calls.

  8. Quick charging: Useful when you're running short on battery.

A Few Things to Consider Before Buying

No product is perfect, and there are a few things you should understand before purchasing.

  • These are on-ear headphones, not over-ear headphones.

  • There is no active noise cancellation (ANC).

  • They are not designed for a premium audiophile listening experience.

  • Long listening sessions may cause discomfort for some users.

  • They are not waterproof, so avoid exposing them to rain or excessive sweat.

Understanding these limitations will help you decide whether they suit your requirements.

Is Sony WH-CH520 Worth Buying?

In my opinion, the Sony WH-CH520 is a sensible option for someone looking for affordable wireless headphones from an established audio brand.

What I particularly like is the combination of long battery life, lightweight construction, multipoint connectivity and customisable sound.

We purchased two units in different colours, Beige and Blue, which makes this purchase a little more special for us.

If you're looking for headphones for everyday music, YouTube, podcasts, casual calls and general entertainment, the WH-CH520 deserves a place on your shortlist.

However, if active noise cancellation, deep isolation or premium over-ear comfort is your priority, you should explore higher-end alternatives.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes, the best purchases are not necessarily the most expensive ones. They are the products that fit naturally into our everyday lives.

For us, the Sony WH-CH520 is one such purchase.

One Beige for my wife, one Blue for me. Two headphones serving the same purpose, but with two different colour preferences!

It's a practical choice for everyday listening without making a big hole in your pocket.

Would I recommend it? Yes, provided you understand what you're getting at this price point.

Bonus Accessory – Sounce Hard EVA Headphone Travel Case

Buying a good pair of headphones is one thing, but protecting them when travelling or storing them is equally important.

Along with our Sony WH-CH520 headphones, another accessory worth mentioning is the Sounce Hard EVA Headphone Case (Black).

It's a hard-shell travel pouch designed for compatible headphones from brands such as boAt, JBL and Sony.

Why Consider a Headphone Case?

If you're someone who regularly carries headphones in a backpack, office bag or travel luggage, keeping them unprotected can sometimes lead to scratches, pressure or accidental damage.

That's where a dedicated headphone case becomes useful.

Some of the features worth considering:

  • Hard EVA exterior: Provides a protective outer shell against everyday knocks and pressure.

  • Compact travel design: Convenient for carrying inside a backpack or travel bag.

  • Soft interior: Helps protect the headphones from scratches.

  • Zipper closure: Keeps the pouch securely closed.

  • Universal-style compatibility: Designed for selected headphone models from boAt, JBL and Sony.

Is It Worth Buying?

If you already own wireless headphones, investing in a suitable protective case is a practical decision, especially if you travel frequently.

The Sounce case is worth considering as an affordable accessory. However, check the internal dimensions and compatibility with your exact headphone model before ordering.
