Do You Know the Size of God? A Father and Son Conversation About Faith and Life

Sometimes, our understanding of God can be surprisingly inconsistent.

When everything goes well and we achieve something important, we often say, “God is with me.” We thank God for our success and believe that His presence guided us through it.

But when things don't go according to plan, our words can quickly change.

“Why did God do this to me?”

“Has God abandoned me?”

“Is God punishing me?”

These thoughts often come from fear, disappointment, and the difficult situations we face in life. And honestly, many of us have probably asked ourselves similar questions at some point.

But perhaps the real question is not whether God is with us only when things are going well.

Perhaps we should ask ourselves:

“Where is God when life becomes difficult?”

To explore that question, I'd like to share a simple conversation between a father and his son—a short story that may offer a different way of looking at God, faith, success, failure, and the difficult moments in life.

A boy asked the father: What is the size of God?

Then the father looked up to the sky and seeing an airplane asked the son: What is the size of that airplane?

The boy answered: It's very small. I can barely see it.

So the father took him to the airport and as they approached an airplane he asked:

And now, what is the size of this one?

The boy answered: Wow daddy, this is huge!

Then the father told him: Like this is God, His size depends on what distance you are from Him. The Closer You are to Him, The Greater He Will Be In Your Life!


Forever it is the size of God...
